Mechanical Drafter – Solid Edge
12-week contract · Full time (40 h/week) · Day shift · Sherbrooke — 100% on-site (plant/shop)
As part of a complete overhaul of our technical drawings, Savage Trailers is looking for a contract mechanical drafter for an intensive 12-week mandate.
The mandate consists of taking measurements on existing components, recreating technical drawings and modelling mechanical assemblies intended for the fabrication and assembly of aluminum trailers, from raw materials and structural components.
Main responsibilities
- Take precise measurements on existing components and assemblies in the shop
- Recreate and produce 2D and 3D technical drawings from physical components
- Model parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies in Solid Edge
- Prepare clear, production-ready fabrication drawings
- Ensure the dimensional, functional and manufacturing consistency of drawings
- Identify and report any inconsistency, improvement or technical constraint observed
- Work in collaboration with the in-house fabrication and engineering team
- Follow internal drawing, tolerance and bill-of-materials standards
Education and experience
- College diploma (DEC) or equivalent in industrial drafting, mechanical engineering or mechanical design
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in mechanical or industrial drafting
- Experience in a manufacturing environment (a strong asset)
Required technical skills
- Excellent command of Solid Edge (mandatory)
- Solid understanding of technical drawings, dimensional tolerances and mechanical assemblies
- Knowledge of materials: aluminum, extrusions, plates, tubes and structural components
- Ability to produce part drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views and bills of materials (BOM)
- Comfortable with measuring tools: caliper, tape measure, micrometer (an asset)
- Understanding of fabrication and assembly constraints
